Summer is finally here, but is your skin summer-ready? Don’t worry, we’ve compiled a few helpful tips on how to prepare your skin for summer and get the glowing summer skin you dream of.
Protect Your Skin
Make sure your skin is protected from harsh UVA and UVB radiation. This radiation not only damages your skin, but will cause premature aging. To prevent this, your sunscreen should be fresh – check the expiration date on your bottle from last year. When buying sunscreen, check to see if it protects against both UVA and UVB radiation for the best protection.
It’s important to reapply sunscreen every two hours and/or after swimming. It’s easy to forget to reapply, so set a timer on your phone if you need a reminder. Some people hate the feel of greasy sunscreen on their face, which deters them from reapplying or applying at all. If you relate, look into sunscreens that are specifically made for your face. They are often lightly moisturizing, non greasy and some come in spray form as to not mess up makeup.
Lips are often forgotten when it comes to sunscreen and as a result are a common place for skin cancer. Protect your lips with a balm or gloss that contains SPF – remember to reapply!
Remove Dead Skin
No matter what time of the year, exfoliation is an important part of skincare. Our skin is constantly shedding dead skin cells and, if not removed, they make the skin look dull. Some people have issues with clogged pores or itchy, flaky skin from dead skin as well. A gentle exfoliation a few times a week will help to keep your skin looking bright and healthy.
Summer can make your skin feel hot and sticky – but you still need a moisturizer! Pack away the heavy butters and creams from winter and look to a light, refreshing moisturizer. Gels and lotions are the lightest form of moisturizers and will absorb quickly into the skin. Apply your daily moisturizer after the shower for quick absorption.
