WXeomin. It sounds like something out of a science fiction movie. And yet, it’s been around on our planet for years. So what is this treatment and what does it do? Read on for your crash course in Xeomin.
At the most basic level, Xeomin is a different
form of botulinum toxin, aka Botox. It works almost the same way as Botox and
is used to relax muscle movement in areas that contribute to wrinkles, such as
While they share the same ingredients, Xeomin
is created after an extra step of purification. While Botox retains a
protective layer of proteins, this same layer is stripped from Xeomin.
As far as patients like you are concerned,
these treatments offer nearly identical services. So why would you choose
Xeomin over Botox?
Because of that stripped layer of proteins,
it’s a great alternative for those who are feeling like their botox treatments
aren’t working as well as they used to. The lack of a protective protein
coating means that our bodies are less likely to develop antibodies to negate
the effects of the treatment.
In blind studies, neither patients nor doctors
could distinguish between the final results of the two treatments. However,
many patients did note that there were reduced feelings of “tightness” with
Xeomin as compared to Botox.
To determine which treatment, Botox or Xeomin, is right for you, you should consult with your doctor. Dr. McCullom has the expertise and in depth understanding of facial cosmetics that this short article could never provide. Ageless and beautiful, the depiction of vampires in popular culture has shifted quite a bit in recent times. If you’ve ever found yourself wishing you could have their timeless beauty, the vampire facelift might be an option for you.
This non-surgical option can be a great solution to restore some youth to your face, making you appear brighter and rejuvenated. Using only the natural platelets found in your own blood stream, this procedure can smooth out lines while stimulating skin regeneration and collagen formation in as little as half an hour. The best part? You don’t have to get bitten for the process to work. We’ll use a much more sanitary method.
Although your blood in mainly a liquid, it also contains a few solid components, some of which are called platelets. Platelets are usually responsible for normal clotting, but have a unique use for your appearance as well. When isolated, concentrated and then activated, platelets release proteins and growth factors that cause the body to release stem cells. These natural factors stimulate skin regeneration and increase collagen formation to cause skin tightening and overall rejuvenation.
The vampire facelift also has great financial and safety benefits. Other types of procedures use artificial materials which can be a lot more expensive. The nature of the products used in the vampire facelift also eliminate the risks usually involved in other procedures. Because your own blood is used, there is no risk of rejection, infection or allergic reaction. There may be some small amounts of swelling, redness or bruising from the needle itself, but these issues are resolved quickly.
If you’re looking for a non-surgical way to gradually improve skin texture and tone, the vampire facelift is an ideal treatment for you. Contact our office to learn more about the treatment options available to you courtesy of Dr. Cornell McCullom.

If you’re not satisfied with the shape of your nose, but don’t want to undergo any invasive surgical procedures, there may still be hope for you. As our skill with injectable fillers continues to increase, more people are looking at a “liquid” nose job.
Traditionally, rhinoplasty is a surgery that requires anesthesia and a significant amount of time to heal. The resulting changes to the nose are permanent. A liquid nose job, or non-surgical rhinoplasty uses ice to numb the injection area before using small needles to change the shape of the nose with fillers or Botox. Unlike a surgical procedure, the results are only temporary (lasting anywhere from 9 months – 2 years) which could be a big positive if you end up not liking the results.
Not all people and not all issues can be fixed with this non-surgical option, but if you’re the right candidate, this procedure can be used to cover issues like a crooked nose, or a bump to make the nose appear straighter, more refined and even smaller.
Non surgical rhinoplasty can not be used to slim the width of the base of the nose, narrow the nasal tip or bring the nostrils in. The procedure also can’t bring the top of the nose closer to the face.
While there are risks involved with any procedure, this non-surgical option has limited risks and complications are extremely rare. In fact, it is most likely one of the safest procedures you can have done.
If you’d like to learn more, or want to see if non-surgical rhinoplasty may be an option for you, please contact our office. We look forward to hearing from you!
Looking for a youthful, natural appearance? Fat grafting can be added to dermal fillers or used on its own to help create a smoother skin. Unlike dermal fillers alone, fat grafting can have a longer lasting effect.
What is Fat Grafting?
As we age, our face loses fat and volume around the eyes, jaws and cheeks. As the face loses volume, wrinkles and lines can become more prominent. Fat grafting gives us the ability to remove excess fat deposits from other areas of the body and gently place it in the areas where it has depleted with age, subtly restoring your youthful appearance.
How Does it Work?
Once fat is collected, it is purified, and carefully placed. The result is a natural look that typically lasts longer than dermal fillers. Platelet rich plasma can be included in the injection for a longer lasting result. Recovery from the procedure is minimal and can last up to a week. Cold compresses can alleviate any swelling that occurs.
Is it Right for Me?
Everybody’s skin is unique. If you’re interested in seeing if fat grafting is right for you, contact our office for an appointment.
Summer is finally here, but is your skin summer-ready? Don’t worry, we’ve compiled a few helpful tips on how to prepare your skin for summer and get the glowing summer skin you dream of.
Protect Your Skin
Make sure your skin is protected from harsh UVA and UVB radiation. This radiation not only damages your skin, but will cause premature aging. To prevent this, your sunscreen should be fresh – check the expiration date on your bottle from last year. When buying sunscreen, check to see if it protects against both UVA and UVB radiation for the best protection.
It’s important to reapply sunscreen every two hours and/or after swimming. It’s easy to forget to reapply, so set a timer on your phone if you need a reminder. Some people hate the feel of greasy sunscreen on their face, which deters them from reapplying or applying at all. If you relate, look into sunscreens that are specifically made for your face. They are often lightly moisturizing, non greasy and some come in spray form as to not mess up makeup.
Lips are often forgotten when it comes to sunscreen and as a result are a common place for skin cancer. Protect your lips with a balm or gloss that contains SPF – remember to reapply!
Remove Dead Skin
No matter what time of the year, exfoliation is an important part of skincare. Our skin is constantly shedding dead skin cells and, if not removed, they make the skin look dull. Some people have issues with clogged pores or itchy, flaky skin from dead skin as well. A gentle exfoliation a few times a week will help to keep your skin looking bright and healthy.
Summer can make your skin feel hot and sticky – but you still need a moisturizer! Pack away the heavy butters and creams from winter and look to a light, refreshing moisturizer. Gels and lotions are the lightest form of moisturizers and will absorb quickly into the skin. Apply your daily moisturizer after the shower for quick absorption.
Did you know there is a non-invasive, office procedure with IMMEDIATE results?!
Dr. Cornell McCollum offers NovaThread Lifts. Treatmenttakes less than an hour and works to lift and contour loose, sagging skin. NovaThread utilizes PDO (polydioxanone) sutures to offer instant skin lifting, skin tightening, and even new collagen growth and neovascularization–improving skin texture, fine lines, and elasticity. So not only will your skin look younger, it will actually feel younger and healthier. And the best news yet–the body-shaping results can last up to 2 years!
NovaThread is a minimally invasive procedure which requires only local anesthesia. It is an injection-based procedure, so there are no cuts, which means no scars or scar tissue. The NovaThread sutures are naturally absorbed by the body in 4-6 months. And NovaThreads can be used in more than just the face and neck–they can target other sagging skin areas, too, like the abdomen, thighs, buttocks, and/or knees.
Now that the cold weather is behind us, it’s
time to get ready for Spring and Summer weather. But before you start breaking out the shorts
and short-sleeved shirts, you’ll want to prepare your skin for more sun exposure.
in Your Skin
Spring in Chicago means rain. The sudden influx of humidity paired with the
on-again, off-again of the heat (and sometimes even the A/C) can start showing
up on your skin. Areas of your face may
be extra oily, which can lead to acne and redness. Continue to moisturize, but try something
that has a water-based formula instead of an oil-base.
If you toned back on exfoliating in the
winter, it may be time to bring that back into your normal routine. Shedding dry skin can be a nuisance but under
that dry, dead skin lies fresh, beautiful, new skin waiting to be
revealed. Exfoliating helps remove that
top layer of skin and helps prevent dead skin from clogging your pores.
For the ultimate spring-cleaning of your
pores, schedule a chemical peel with Dr. Cornell McCullom. Dr. McCullom will meet with you and determine
which peel is right for your skin based on your skin’s needs.
Even though rainy days are a staple of spring,
UV exposure doesn’t take a vacation. Be
sure to always wear SPF, especially on your face (and don’t forget your
ears!). Dr. McCullom recommends using a
minimum of a 30 SPF on a daily basis. Be
sure to reapply often if you’re outdoors for extended durations, or if you’re
Evening walks and extended sunlight hours are
some of everyone’s favorite parts of Spring.
But don’t forget to grab a bottle of water with you on your walks. Staying properly hydrated by drinking at
least eight 8-oz glasses of water a day is a must to keep your skin
healthy. As a bonus, you’ll feel
energized and proper hydration can even help keep your appetite under control
and aid in breaking down fat. That’s a

If you have deep wrinkles or creases, or need
to plump areas of fat loss (sunken cheeks, hollow eyes, or skin indentations),
then the Sculptra Aesthetic filler may be just what you need!
Dr. Cornell McCullom offers this treatment in
his convenient Chicago office. Sculptra
injection treatments take about 30 minutes.
The treatments have virtually no down time at all. Full results are typically achieved in about
two to four treatments. Unlike other
fillers, Sculptra produces gradual results that are long-lasting, with effects
lasting up to 2 years.
Sculptra is injected beneath the skin and
works by replacing lost collagen. Sculptra uses poly-L lactic acid, which the
human body naturally produces and has been used in sutures (also known as
stitches) for many years. Following the injection, an easy aftercare procedure
helps to ensure the lasting effects.
Results become apparent gradually during the first weeks following the
procedure, leaving the skin surface appearing younger and restored.
Dr. McCollum is welcoming new patients to his
office. If you’re considering a filler
and interested in learning more about Sculptra or other fillers such as
Restylane, Juvederm, Radiesse, or Belotero, contact our team to schedule your
